Description

This Strawberry Shortcake Trifle with Angel Food Cake is a delightful blend of layers featuring soft angel food cake, fresh strawberries, and creamy yogurt whipped topping, making it a perfect dessert for gatherings or family dinners. Simple to prepare, it’s a treat everyone will adore!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Angel Food Cake (cut into 1" cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cold water
  • 4 cups strawberries (quartered, and divided)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. To make the strawberry sauce, combine cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, mix 2 cups quartered strawberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Cook for 1 minute while stirring continuously until thickened.
  4. Add the remaining 2 cups of strawberries and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat once thickened.
  5. For the Greek yogurt whipped cream, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a stand mixer until medium peaks form.
  6. Fold in the Greek yogurt until nicely combined.
  7. To assemble the trifle, layer 1/3 of the angel food cake cubes in a trifle dish and top with 1/3 of the Greek yogurt whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
  8. Then, spread 1/3 to 1/2 of the strawberry sauce over the whipped cream.
  9. Repeat this layering process two more times before topping with any remaining strawberry sauce.
  10. For garnishing, slice fresh strawberries and place them on top just before serving.
  11. Chill the trifle in the fridge for at least 1 hour before enjoying, but it is best served the same day.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh, ripe strawberries.
The trifle can be made a few hours ahead of time but tastes best if enjoyed the same day.
Feel free to experiment with other fruits in layers for variety.
