- 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
- ½ cup strawberry jam
- 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
- 1 tbsp milk, any type works
- 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth, about 1 minute.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheets and lay them out on the baking sheet, keeping the center section intact for filling.
- Cut 1-inch strips from the outer sections of the pastry, creating tassel-like strips while leaving the middle section connected.
- Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of each pastry sheet.
- Combine the strawberry jam with orange or lemon zest and place it over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup per pastry.
- Fold the outer strips over the filling in a V shape, creating a braided pattern until all strips are used.
- Brush the top of each Danish with milk, covering the visible pastry strands.
- Sprinkle turbinado or granulated sugar on top.
- Bake the pastries for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow the Danishes to cool for 15 minutes, then prepare the optional glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled pastries, let it set, slice, and serve.
Notes
For a different flavor, try using raspberry or apricot jam instead of strawberry.
Make sure the puff pastry is well-thawed for easier handling and better texture after baking.
