Description
This Ridiculously-Good Steak Lo Mein features tender beef sirloin, vibrant vegetables, and chewy lo mein noodles, all tossed in a rich sauce. It’s a quick and satisfying meal, ideal for any night of the week, bringing restaurant flavor right to your table!

- 1 tablespoon potato starch
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup dark soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons shaoxing wine
- 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon five spice powder
- ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 lb beef sirloin flap steak
- 2–3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large carrot
- 5 ounces shiitake mushrooms
- ½ large yellow onion
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 lb pre-cooked frozen lo mein noodles
- 6–8 scallions
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together potato starch and water until dissolved.
- Add soy sauce, shaoxing wine, brown sugar, five spice powder, white pepper, and sesame oil to the bowl and mix well.
- In another bowl, coat the sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of sauce and marinate for 30 minutes. Set aside remaining sauce.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Sear the marinated beef in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer cooked beef to a plate and repeat for all.
- . Add more oil if needed, then stir-fry carrots, mushrooms, onion, and bell pepper until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- Return seared beef to pan with any juices and add lo mein noodles, remaining sauce, and scallions. Stir-fry until combined and sauce is glossy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add a splash of water or broth to loosen sauce if desired. Serve immediately garnished with sliced scallions.
