Description

Treat yourself to Puppy Chow Brownies—rich chocolate brownies topped with creamy peanut butter frosting and puppy chow for a sweet, crunchy finish. Perfect for gatherings or a fun snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups chopped chocolate, divided
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream, or whole milk
  • 3 cups puppy chow

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract; whisk until combined. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, optional espresso powder, and salt. Fold in 1 cup of chopped chocolate.
  3. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup chopped chocolate on top. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan.
  4. In a stand mixer, beat peanut butter and softened butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream, then beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Spread the peanut butter frosting evenly over the cooled brownies, then sprinkle with puppy chow, gently pressing it into the frosting.
  6. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

You can substitute the cocoa powder with unsweetened cocoa if Dutch-processed is unavailable.
Be careful not to overbake the brownies for the best texture.
