Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add grated garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant.
  3. Stir in dried oregano and crushed red pepper, cooking for 1 minute until aromatic.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes and sugar, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Simmer for 20 minutes until sauce thickens.
  6. Mix in unsalted butter and season with salt and pepper to taste, then let cool to room temperature.

Notes

For a more robust flavor, let the sauce sit in the fridge for a couple of hours before using.
This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Feel free to adjust the spice levels by adding more or fewer red pepper flakes.
