- 2 cups apple juice, or fresh apple cider
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat a heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the apple juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, apple cider vinegar, and butter; whisk to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and continue boiling for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat, add the vanilla, and stir well again.
- Allow to cool completely, then serve with pancakes, waffles, French toast, or ice cream.
Notes
Store any leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
For a thicker syrup, continue cooking until desired consistency.
