Description

Hamburger Hash is a comforting dish that combines ground beef, tender potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese. Quick to make and packed with flavor, it’s ideal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium russet potatoes peeled and 1/2-inch diced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium white onion diced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 2½ cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Place the cubed potatoes in a pot of salted water and boil for 5–7 minutes until fork-tender. Drain thoroughly and set aside to steam-dry.
  2. In a large non-stick skillet over high heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned. Drain off the rendered fat and set the cooked beef aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the diced onion, par-boiled potatoes, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, stirring often for about 5 minutes until the potatoes are golden-brown and the onions are translucent.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir well. Sprinkle cheese over the mixture and stir constantly until fully melted and glossy.
  5. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

Feel free to add extra vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for additional nutrition.
For spice lovers, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
