Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch in a medium bowl; set aside.
  2. Cream softened unsalted butter and sugar in a large bowl using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, stirring in the sour cream until combined.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients with wet until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into circles with a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Arrange cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes, just until barely golden.
  9. Cool cookies completely before frosting them.
  10. Beat softened butter until fluffy then mix in powdered sugar and vanilla to create frosting.
  11. Gradually add milk until a smooth, spreadable consistency is reached, adjusting with more milk if needed.
  12. Divide frosting into three bowls, tint each with food coloring.
  13. Frost cookies using a piping bag or offset spatula and decorate with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chill the dough for a firmer texture before rolling out.
Use food coloring in small amounts to achieve the desired color intensity for frosting.
Experiment with different sprinkles for varied festive looks.
