Description

This Crockpot Onion Dip combines caramelized onions, creamy cheeses, and savory seasonings to create an irresistible dip that’s perfect for parties or a cozy night in. Simple to prepare and bursting with flavor, it’s a must-try for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large onions (or 4 medium onions)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (half brick) (softened)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by halving each onion, discarding the ends, and peeling them. Slice each half into thin strips.
  2. Place the sliced onions in the crockpot. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and black pepper, and mix to combine. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Note: For convenience, this step can be done overnight, keeping it on 'keep warm' until ready to make the dip.
  3. Stir in the sour cream, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and hot sauce into the onions. Mix until well combined, tasting and adjusting the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. For a thicker dip, drain excess juices from the onions before mixing.
  4. To serve hot, keep the dip in the slow cooker on the 'keep warm' setting. For cold serving, transfer the dip to another container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For a spicier dip, add more hot sauce according to your taste.
To enhance flavor, consider caramelizing onions for an extra 15-20 minutes on the stovetop before adding to the slow cooker.
Serve with chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for a delightful appetizer.
