Description

Enjoy the rich and creamy taste of Classic Horchata, a delightful Mexican rice drink. This recipe showcases simple ingredients like rice, cinnamon, and milk for a refreshingly sweet treat, perfect for gatherings or simply celebrating everyday moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cups milk, dairy or dairy-free milk
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup, or other sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine the rice, water, and cinnamon sticks in a high-powered blender. Blend for 40 to 60 seconds until ground.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a large container, cover, and refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours, ideally overnight.
  3. Strain the mixture through a nut-milk bag into a pitcher to remove the solids.
  4. Mix in the milk, vanilla extract, and maple syrup. Adjust sweetness to taste by adding more sweetener if desired.
  5. Serve over ice and garnish with freshly ground cinnamon or additional cinnamon sticks.

Notes

For a creamier texture, use coconut milk or almond milk.
Chill the horchata thoroughly for the best flavor.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
