Description
These apple turnovers with puff pastry are a delightful treat featuring tender apples, sweet brown sugar, and a crispy crust. Perfect for a quick snack or comforting dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, Thawed
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 3 medium Apples (Peeled, Cored & Diced)
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Flour
- 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
- 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1–2 tbsp Milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Thaw the Puff Pastry according to the instructions while making the apple filling.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally until they soften.
- Reduce the heat to low, stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, and simmer for 3 minutes until the apples are caramelized. Remove and let cool.
- Dust a counter with flour. Roll out the first sheet of puff pastry to an 11" square and cut into 4 equal squares. Place the cooled apple mixture on half of each square, leaving a 1/2" border.
- Whisk the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of the pastry lightly with the wash to seal, then crimp edges with a fork.
- Repeat rolling and filling with the second sheet of Puff Pastry.
- Transfer the turnovers to a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced 1" apart. Cut 2-3 small slits in the tops to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the tops with the egg wash, then bake for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed.
- To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until reaching the desired consistency, then drizzle over the baked turnovers.
Notes
For a richer filling, add a splash of vanilla extract to the apples while simmering.
Ensure the pastry is fully thawed before rolling for even baking.
These turnovers can be frozen before baking for a quick treat later.
